I’m Olga – and I’m the Wandering Wino.
I love wine. I love everything about it – the stories from the vineyards, the different smells and tastes in every bottle, the way its flavours are enhanced by the right foods. Wine is meant to be an experience, and to me, is an integral part of my two other favourite things in life: food and travel.
I have been lucky enough to turn my wine hobby into a career. Many years ago, I was working in advertising and had a desk job with a cubicle, boardroom meetings, sad desk lunches and fluorescent lights. I took an introductory wine class for fun – as someone who always enjoyed wine, I was amazed at how much more I loved and appreciated it when I learned more about what was in my glass. So I signed up for another class, and then another, and another. Fast-forward to today, and I am a certified sommelier, and have my Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Advanced Level 3. I work for a wine distributor (translation: I taste wine with other sommeliers who may want to buy said wine). And I’m opening my own wine bar.
I invite you to join me on this journey, and maybe learn a few things about wine, food and travel as we go. I’m never in one place for very long – my family is scattered all over the globe, which helps when I get the urge to travel – and I’m always on the lookout for new restaurants, new places, and favourite wines and wine pairings. I believe that life is too short to drink something you don’t enjoy every sip of, and I love helping people discover an appreciation for wine, just like I did. Wine is a joyous, wonderful thing that shouldn’t be intimidating or complicated – it should simply be enjoyed.
